Koh Samui secret beaches – 5 tropical paradises

Koh Samui has many hidden gems and it’s becoming an increasingly popular destination among tourists. Let me tell you something: I’ve been traveling around Southeast Asia for almost one year now and I’ve seen my fair share of beaches.

However, none of the beaches I’ve seen so far are as beautiful as the ones in Koh Samui. With a wide variety of options: touristic beaches and secret beaches, Koh Samui is a small paradise. The water is one of the clearest I’ve seen so far, there are many snorkeling spots and the beaches are extremely clean.

If you want to have privacy and take a step back from all the touristy places, I have compiled a list with the most beautiful secret beaches in Koh Samui. Read more below.

Tip: to avoid the crowds, you should consider visiting Koh Samui outside the touristy season

1. Laem Yai Beach

If you are looking for remote, hidden paradises, this beach is one of them. Located outside the touristy area of Koh Samui, Laem Yai Beach will surprise you with tall palm trees, golden sand and incredible views.

There is only one resort on this beach so finding remote spots won’t be a problem. When we visited Laem Yai Beach, we were the only ones there and we had the whole beach to ourselves.

If you want to swim, maybe this beach is not the right choice. As you will enter the water, you will see that the terrain is pretty rocky and the water is shallow. You can definitely refresh yourself and take a dip but swimming will be hard if not impossible.

Tip: Bring water and snacks with you. You won’t find any shops on the beach. There is one little convenience store on the way from the main street to Laem Yai Beach so make sure to buy everything you need from there.

2. Maenam Beach

The bigger sister of the famous Bophut Beach, Maenam Beach usually gets overlooked by tourists. This almost 3km long beach is great if you are looking for a place close to the touristy areas but not overcrowded.

With golden sand, clear water and plenty of space, Maenam Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Koh Samui. Although you can’t actually say that this is a secret beach, it still has its charm and I’m sure you’ll love it!

Just a 10 minutes drive away from Maenam Beach is Bophut Fisherman’s Village, one of the top attractions in Koh Samui. Check it out!

3. Coconut Beach

Just near the main pier in Koh Samui is the Coconut Beach. There are a few resorts on this beach but most of the time you won’t find many people here. If you are looking for a quiet beach in Koh Samui, this might be the perfect choice.

The beauty of this beach lies in the hundreds of coconut trees, situated right on the seashore. There are even some swings with awesome views towards the sea. Coconut Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Koh Samui.

Even though this beach is not visited by many tourists, the good part is that it’s not remote. Therefore, you will find many convenience stores and restaurants near it.

4. Silver Beach

This is definitely one of the most beautiful Koh Samui hidden beaches. This small stretch of land situated somewhere near the Elephant Rock will amaze you with its crystal clear water, colorful fish and amazing rocks.

After almost one year on the road in Southeast Asia, Silver Beach is still my all time favorite. The water has one of the most beautiful shades of blue I’ve ever seen, there are almost no waves which means that you can swim in peace, the beach is extremely clean and there are many colorful fish in the water.

Tip: If you want to see hundreds of fish, make sure to go near the rocks – you will be surrounded by them!

While you’re visiting Silver Beach, don’t hesitate to also visit the amazing Overlap Stone.

The truth is that lately people started to find out about this Koh Samui hidden gem and the beach is not as remote as it used to be (you won’t find hundreds of people there but there will be a few). Therefore, if you want to have it all for yourself make sure to be there early in the morning or choose to stay towards the end of the beach.

Getting to it might be a little bit tricky. You will have to park your car or motorbike in the parking near Silver Beach Resort and then go through a restaurant to reach this beach. Check out my full guide here!

5. The Beach Bar

One of the most beautiful hidden beaches in Koh Samui is the Beach Bar. This small stretch of sand offers some incredible views and beautiful crystal clear water.

There are a few restaurants on the beach but you won’t have to worry about dealing with crowds of people.

The best part about this place is that if you are lucky enough, you can see colorful fish in the water while swimming. Bringing your snorkeling gear with you is a great idea!

Thank you, but im still a bit lost. The only place that’s comes up, is right at Chaweng beach (or the end of it)… and that’s not really a quiet little beach… (:

It’s located in the southern part of Chaweng Beach but it is a separate beach. It’s very quiet and relaxing 🙂
